George Bush sings "Sunday Bloody Sunday" by "hard rock" (according to Simon) band U2. Busy week. Back posting next week.

Generic names for soft drinks

Interesting. This map (click for bigger) shows the generic names used for soft drinks in the USA: the results show that it is strongly regional, with "pop" ruling in the north, and "coke" ruling the south. Read an article here.

Check this tasty convenience food out: pork brains in milk gravy. Only 150 calories and 5 grams of fat per can, as well as 1170% of your cholesterol RDA. Apparently the cholesterol comes from the fat coating the nerves: yummy!

Headline of the day

Go Mac

A leading security firm says that security threats to PCs with Windows have increased so much that it is time for users to think of switching to Apple. As a fully paid-up member of the cult of Mac, I can only add that I have had no malicious software and hardly any pop-ups since switching over a year ago.

Another excellent abridged script from The Editing Room.

This time it's X-Men 3. As usual, he get straight to the heart of the matter:

They FIGHT more. Eventually, most of the new characters are killed and IAN is "cured". FAMKE goes fucking BATSHIT CRAZY on everything.

The only way to stop you from killing everyone is to kill you, Famke!

Well, you could throw the cure mutant kid at me.

Or we could have saved a few of the cure vials for Famke, rather than stick all four of them in Ian for no reason.

Nope, it's definitely the thing where I kill her.

Magnet bed

This floating magnet bed costs $1.5 million. Seems like the sort of bed that a supervillan should have. I can't see any possibility of there being any negative health side-effects of sleeping within a giant magnet for 8 hours a day...

Woman with intense phobia of pickles

Resist the urge to shout "FREAK". Freud would have had a field day with her.

Why modern music is rubbish

This fascinating article argues that modern music sounds so homogenous because it is. Rather than having quiet and loud bits that excite you, modern music seems to all be compressed to give the most "bombastic" sound that is radio-friendly. And the article blames Oasis.

Stephen Baldwin, brother of the greatest actor of all time Alec Baldwin, suggests in his autobigraphy that Bono would do better if he "preached the gospel of Jesus rather than trying to get rid of Third World debt". Apparently he believes that only Christianity can solve the world's problems...

Grand Prix

I've finally got round to putting my GP photos on flickr. Here's the set. The World Cup photos will be up sometime next year.

Wake up

Guess who got a little lazy after getting back from Germany? Anyway, it's time to post again. Germany was awesome: rammed with people from all over the world, and the Korea-Switzerland match in Hanover had the best atmosphere that I've ever experienced in a football stadium. The less said about the Switzerland-Ukraine match, the better...
